After alien spores infect her, a young botanist is abducted and carved apart by experiments meant to turn extinction into a weapon. The laboratory falls before its work can be controlled, sealing Ava beneath the ruins while the infection escapes into the world.
Two centuries later, rescue operative Gabriel discovers a woman alive inside an ancient cryogenic pod. She wakes with fractured memories, amber eyes, and blood that kills the creatures hunting humanity. But the same power that makes Ava a possible cure can twist her into something as terrifying as the monsters outside.
Hunted through ruined settlements and distrusted aboard the only sanctuary she has left, Ava must decide whether she can master what was done to her. Gabriel must decide how much he is willing to risk for someone the world sees as a weapon. As suspicion gives way to trust—and trust to something neither of them expected—their fight for survival becomes a fight for a future worth reaching.
Because the spores did not merely destroy the old world. They changed what it means to be human.
